Local Drag Queen DIVOS wins $25,000 in Nationwide Snapchat Contests, Representing the LA Queer Community Amidst Backlash
DIVOS, a local LA Drag Queen and UCLA Alum, has won 14 of Snapchat's "Spotlight Challenges" in the past 3.5 months, winning $25,000 and amounting nearly 750,000 views (both in and out of drag). DIVOS' content has a healthy irreverence, with drag being a part of the videos, but not necessarily always the focus. Unafraid to unapologetically exist, DIVOS eloquently reminds viewers that drag queens are real people under the makeup.

In the world of RuPaul's Drag Race, trying to shine as a drag queen is not easy if you are not yet associated with the franchise, but DIVOS is doing it with dreams of being cast in the show. DIVOS performs live in West Hollywood at Hamburger Mary's, Stache and the Bayou as well as in San Diego at Mic Drop Comedy.
This is significant for Snapchat as they are highlighting an openly queer creator on a platform with few LGBTQ+ or Queer perspectives. Below are screenshots from an Instagram post that DIVOS (@d.i.v.o.s on Instagram) curated to highlight the hate comments on her winning content. Although shocking and sad, the comments prove that representation is as important as ever. People are so angry but DIVOS stands confidently and joyously as a larger-than-life symbol for the queer community, happy to take the hate in order to help deflect it away from vulnerable queer people.
